WELCOME TO HOUSTON PETS ALIVE!
Our mission:
HPA!’s mission is to save the lives of at-risk companion cats and dogs and find them loving homes.
Our vision:
HPA!’s vision is a world where every dog and cat has a forever home.
Where is the need?
Houston is facing a critical challenge with homeless pets, as animal shelters are overwhelmed beyond capacity and the streets are inundated with strays, creating a dire situation that requires urgent intervention. The majority of these animals are healthy and adoptable, yet they face a grim future due to overcrowding and limited resources. At Houston Pets Alive!, we work alongside governments, shelters, rescues, and passionate citizens to increase live outcomes for these pets.
We’re not your average rescue. We act as a safety net for municipal shelters/impound facilities and serve at-risk animals by working alongside our animal welfare partners to reduce euthanasia, pet homelessness, and animal suffering in the Houston area. We empower our community, through education, outreach, and accessible care, to share in our vision of a world where every cat and dog has a loving home.
Who is Houston Pets Alive!?
Houston Pets Alive! is a 501(c)3 organization (EIN 46-5455638) founded by Andrea Birkelbach in 2014. We are comprised of animal-loving volunteers and staff who never stop working to save the next life.
