About Us

Houston Pets Alive! Through the Years

Houston Pets Alive! (HPA!) began in 2014 as a small foster-based rescue dedicated to saving animals in need.

In 2017, HPA! took a leading role in Houston’s response to Hurricane Harvey, rescuing thousands of displaced animals and establishing its first physical location.

Between 2018 and 2019, HPA! experienced rapid growth, eventually relocating to a larger facility on Antoine Drive. The Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 halted animal services across the city but led to a surge in adoptions, as more people opened their homes to pets in need.

By 2022, the rising number of strays, increased adoption returns, and shelter resource shortages prompted HPA! to expand its mission, addressing these urgent challenges head-on.

Today, HPA! continues to support local shelters and animal welfare organizations by providing on-site training, education, program development, and operational support—enhancing their capacity to save lives.

Our Mission: HPA! saves the lives of at-risk dogs and cats and finds them loving homes.

Our Vision: HPA!’s vision is a world where every dog and cat has a loving home.

Our Work in Houston

Our programs are driven by compassion, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to making a difference in the lives of at-risk pets.

More than a rescue, HPA! works alongside our local animal shelters and partners to increase lifesaving. Each aspect of our work is designed to give adoptable animals a second chance at a happy, healthy life. We also focus on community outreach, education, and training to prevent future homelessness.

We invite you to join us on our mission and discover how, together, we can transform the lives of homeless animals and build a brighter future for our community.
