Tacy Smith of Missouri City, TX has been a volunteer for Houston Pets Alive! Thrift since August 2018 when she read about the store’s opening in the newspaper, and she has since become a volunteer store supervisor!
How did you originally hear about HPA!?
When purchasing items in PetSmart, I noticed HPA!’s cats, which were available for adoption. I also saw a flyer listing items that HPA! needed as donations. I decided to visit the cat facility to donate the items and learn more about the organization.
Why did you initially choose to get involved with HPA! and why do you stay involved?
When I learned about HPA!’s mission, I was struck by the criticality of the work that the organization performs since the organization is literally the final hope for cats and dogs. That’s what initially made me want to get involved. My interactions with the other volunteers is what keeps me involved. I love working with individuals who are dedicated, passionate, and energized about helping animals. My volunteer hours are both fun and fulfilling.
Elaborate on your role/what you do:
I serve as a supervisor for shifts at HPA! Thrift. This involves helping customers with their selections, distributing donations so we can offer them for sale, and educating customers about HPA!
What advice do you have for others looking to get involved?
Find a role that you are passionate about and jump in with both feet. There are so many different ways to help – they are all important and needed.
Is there a current HPA! pet that you’d like to give a shout out to? Why should someone adopt them?
I primarily see our cats and dogs during HPA! Thrift’s monthly Sip Shop Adopt events. I don’t have a favorite – they would all make wonderful forever companions.
(Find all adoptable pets here.)
Anything else you’d like to share?
While I am honored to be spotlighted, my hat is off to the team who conceived and developed Thrift. If you haven’t visited the store yet, please stop by to find a treasure. The Sip Shop Adopt events are especially fun. This group knows how to party!
